What We Hold, and Why

Privacy

A plain account of the information this website collects.

This website is run by Palatine Masonic Lodge No. 314. We keep as little about you as we can, we do not sell anything about you to anybody, and we do not track you around the internet.

When you write to us

The enquiry form, the contact form and the trestleboard form all do the same thing: they send an email to the Secretary at palatinemasonictemple@gmail.com. Your name, your email address, anything you type, and a telephone number if you give one, travel in that email. They are not saved in a database on this website.

That email then sits in the Secretary’s mailbox for as long as it is useful, the same as a letter would sit in a file. If you would like it deleted, ask, and it will be.

The forms record the moment the page was opened and carry one hidden field, both used only to tell a person from an automated script. Neither identifies you.

The trestleboard

Asking for the trestleboard adds your name and email to a list the Secretary keeps, for the purpose of sending you the trestleboard. It is used for nothing else and shared with nobody. Ask to be taken off and you will be, without being asked why.

Member accounts

Brethren who sign in have an account holding a name, an email address and a role. Signing in sets cookies so the site remembers you between pages; they are cleared when you sign out. Some pages and some events are visible only to signed-in members, which is the reason the accounts exist.

The calendar

The calendar lists meetings and events. It holds nothing about visitors. Part of it is read from the calendar published by the Palatine Masonic Temple, which is a separate body with its own arrangements.

If you buy something

Ordering from the shop means giving a name, an address and contact details so the order can be sent to you, and those are kept as the lodge needs to keep its accounts. Payment is handled by the payment provider on their own systems: card numbers are never seen by, or stored on, this website.

Maps

Pages showing where the temple is embed a Google map. Loading it tells Google that a map was requested. If you would rather it did not, the address is written out in text on the same page and the map can be ignored.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising or analytics cookies. The only cookies are the ones WordPress uses to keep you signed in, and, if you use the shop, the one that remembers what is in your basket.

Who else sees any of this

Nobody outside the lodge, except the companies that make the website work at all: the firm hosting it, the service carrying our email, and the providers named above. We do not sell, rent or trade anything about you, and we do not send marketing on anyone else’s behalf.

What you can ask for

You may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to the Secretary and say what you would like. We will not make it difficult.

Children

This site is meant for adults and we do not knowingly collect anything from children. If you believe a child has sent us something, tell us and it will be removed.

Comments

Suggested text: When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Media

Suggested text: If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

Suggested text: If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

Embedded content from other websites

Suggested text: Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

Suggested text: If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How long we retain your data

Suggested text: If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

Suggested text: If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

Suggested text: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
